Crafting the Flag

25 - 30 June, 9am-5.30pm | Surrey
Farnham Maltings
Farnham Maltings will produce a bespoke quilted version of Ai Weiwei’s flag. The footprint will be represented by 429 white hand-appliquéd circles, each circle representing each person’s individual freedom and human rights. As a space dedicated to arts and crafts producing a contemporary quilt for the project seemed befitting.

The Maltings social community craft groups are working with quilting expert Brigitte Gillespie to produce the flag. In a strive to combat loneliness and isolation, these social community groups help connect local people from all backgrounds, stimulating conversation and friendship. Everyone is welcome to join the community group who meet at The Malting’s every Thursday morning to contribute to the making of the quilt.

The Flag will be displayed in the entrance to Farnham Maltings from 25 – 30 June.

Location: Farnham Maltings, Bridge Square, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7QR
