Join us on Human Rights Day 2020
18th November, 2020
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 25:
“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.”
On 10 December 2020, Fly The Flag will launch a series of specially commissioned poems in response to Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Poets and spoken word artists from across the UK will perform their poems digitally, igniting conversations and reminding us that even in times of crisis we must protect the rights of everyone.
Alongside this schools will receive a new virtual Assembly Pack with the poems, providing a moment for creativity in their assemblies and some thoughtful provocations around Article 25. Partner organisations across the UK will also be running events including virtual debates and live poetry readings. Please check our What’s Happening page for updates.
Fly The Flag 2020 poems will be launched here on 10 December 2020 and you can follow @FlyTheFlag70 for updates.
